I've drilled out so much meat of the bolt I'm afraid of cutting into the threads. Now I have a dremel cutting wheel attached to my cordless drill and tomorrow I'm praying I can chop and drill the nut enough to get it out without ruining anything else. I've already applied enough heat to the nut so that the adjacent plastic components are melting. It looks to me like there is epoxy holding the nut in place rather than loctite.

Well I got the job done. In the end it was a big ass no. 6 Irwin brand EZ Out which was tougher steel than the first set, plus I think it was a 12 MM half inch socket which fit over the top of the EZ out, and a 40 inch breaker bar which got the job done. I'm too tired now but I took photos which may help someone in the future, although I think the job is pretty well described here already.
