Same here....my father in law has a 5.9 liter gasser v8 dodge, he drives it mostly highway to work and back, and only gets around TEN to 12 mpg. I drive almost 3x as far as him every week in my commute in my SD, and I spend about $20 LESS in fuel.

I suppose it could in theory if driven at 55mph and had the suspension lowered to the ground with a tonneau cover on the bed in SWB form....

My 91' F700 gets between 11-12.5mpg with a 93' 12 valve cummins in it , 5spd Eaton transmission and 2spd rear axle. Weighs in at 19,500 lbs empty.

My friend just got a new duramax with all the emissions crap on it and averages 22mpg.

On the gas Chevy maybe a 4.8 but the 5.3 and 6 liter are thirsty engines. The older 350's where even worse. My TBI motor gets 12 when empty and about 6 when pulling something. Reliable as hell but really thirsty.

Removing emissions equipment form a modern truck diesel results in HUGE power increases and moderate economy increases. It takes a lot of energy to be "green"

I may be mistaken but in theory that's no different than just limiting how much fuel your giving your engine with your right foot. What happens when you need that power and cant access it?

Or you could take all the crap off and then run bio and you have the best of both worlds... I know from experience

I've done 26mpg highway when I had 17's on my truck... I'm down to about 20-21 highway now since I put the 20's and big mud tires on it... 2007.5 Chevy Duramax with custom tuning by me

A lot faster than my w123 but I enjoy driving both

The chip on my truck is good for 40HP (tow safe) 80HP (economy) and 120HP (power). It seems to add some extra timing advance in the 80HP mode because I can hear the engine get noisier when I switch to it.

Best I've gotten was 18MPG with an average of 16 and 11 when towing another vehicle.

My 89 Cummins (std cab, 4WD, 5 speed Getrag) will consistently get the following:

Highway, unloaded: 21-23mpg.

Towing a car trailer with car: 17-18MPG.

Towing a 27' Airstream: 14-15MPG

Commuting: 20-21MPG

Numbers have stayed consistent over the last 13 years.
Fuel pressure has been cranked a bit, but truck is basically stock and doesn't smoke at all. I also tend to drive for mileage, not for speed, that's what the 560SEL is for....

Ok don't believe me. Ill try to take a pic after he drives a bit and has his trip miles up on the same tank of gas. There is no point in lying on a MB forum

I will agree with him on the 24 based on a couple of things.
I had one and if the following was followed 24 was acheiveable.
65 mph.
Flat ground(IN,IL,OH type of flat)
All highway.
We took ours from nw pa to Watertown SD(1200 miles) running across the flat ground we got 22 at 72 mph. But if it was the 4x4 i would have to say no way. Dont forget that the gm trucks shut off 4 cyl when not needed.

I think the second poster in the thread has the correct question. I've heard it said that the most common lies told are regarding fuel mileage and IRS forms.

I've owned two Powerstrokes in the past that were chipped - a 2002 7.3 and a 2004 6.0. With the chip in, the MPG gauge would read high and that happened on everyone's Ford who chipped it. So a guy who didn't know what he was doing, would look at the MPG gauge and say "Holy Crap! I'm getting 24 mpg!" but he never did the math by hand. Since then, I don't believe these chipped trucks claims unless they calculated it by hand. Can a Duramax get 24 highway? Sure, if it's setup right (2wd), accelerated easily, chipped, and goes no faster than 65 on the highway.

There are no odometer problems with his truck. And his truck definitely has power when you need it.

nobody said anything about odometer problems, it's just that if you are using the onboard MPG readout, it's erroneous. to figure mpg's accurately, you need a full tank of fuel, and a odometer and a calculator (or someone else's brain...) and actually, you need more than one tank, and have to average the miles over the tanks.

I had a client with a dodge diesel that stated that he could get 24mpg with his banks set up. Do understand that cost of the banks systems means that your really not going to safe any money on diesel, unless the price of diesel is $7.00 a gallon. LOL But it was nice to drive his truck around, because that truck had some major power.

http://bankspower.com/app/index/2

I hear you get the most out of the system if you get the package deal. Tuning, exhaust/intake and ram intake system.

I need to get off this website, I'm feeling I need to purchase a truck. MOST LOG OFF. MOST LOG OFF.
