I hear you get the most out of the system if you get the package deal. Tuning, exhaust/intake and ram intake system.

I need to get off this website, I'm feeling I need to purchase a truck. MOST LOG OFF. MOST LOG OFF.
heh, after reading this thread last night... I perused the cl ads for dodge trucks... made a few calls, and well, I think I am getting one... what the hell is wrong with me?

Never used the mpg readout either my dads truck or my moms van, after many trips and looking at the fuel remaining and miles driven that is how he calculates his mpg. its a 2002 silverado Z71(maybe 2003 but i think its 2002.)

Incorrect ... I have personally had one of these trucks.... 2007 1500 silverado classic ext cab chev with 5.3 gas v8 and i consistently saw 22 mpg (19-20 city) over 3 years.... I am not the easiest person with my right foot so i can see that it is completely possible to achieve 24 mpg with that motor. Hypertech also makes a chip for that engine that is said to improve the economy even more! Mine was stock.

So a guy who didn't know what he was doing, would look at the MPG gauge and say "Holy Crap! I'm getting 24 mpg!" but he never did the math by hand. Since then, I don't believe these chipped trucks claims unless they calculated it by hand. Can a Duramax get 24 highway? Sure, if it's setup right (2wd), accelerated easily, chipped, and goes no faster than 65 on the highway.
I don't use the readout on the DIC .... I calculate it from the fuel receipts that i keep in the center consol.... so you are incorrect on your assumption... then again my 2006 crew cab sb 2500 duramax has only seen 22 over a whole tank not 24.... and the DIC was within a 1 mpg just as an FYI.

Well, I don't know about the Duramax or Cummins, but my 2002 F-250 7.3 has seen as much as 22 mpg. No chip, but Hypertech programmed to "safe tow". Never, never believe the computer readout on a Ford if it has a chip or program - it lies. Do hand calculations.

I still love my '87 300D that gets 25 city/up to 32 highway....all hand-calculated.

These mileage figures can be possible, but keep in mind that some programmers will cause the mileage display to give an artificially high reading. My '03 Dodge 2500 4X4 gives a consistent 23 MPG on the road at 65 MPH, hand calculated. It has a modified crank sensor to advance the timing 2 degrees, the Dynatrac free spin kit to disengage the front axle, all Amsoil lubricants. I recently installed a BD turbo and exhaust manifold, I expect an improvement due to lower backpressure and lower boost pressure when cruising. When I get some summer fuel into it, I'll know the answer. Cruising range is 800 miles on a 35 gallon tank. Keep in mind this year vehicle has no emission controls of any type.

I will still call BS on any claims of getting 24 mpg with a full sized pickup with a gas engine, unless you tell me you were driving on flat ground at 37 mpg.

I've had a bunch of full sized pickups and suburbans.....and I know how to calculate mileage.

If you read my post, I never assumed anything. I just stated what I've seen in the past.

My F250 with an FE 360/4BBL/4speed manual with 3.73 gears gets 12 on a good day empty with a tailwind. Hauling, 7.5 is pretty typical when I'm towing on the highway, but then it's typically a 9k-12k trailer with a lifted 4x4 on it and doing 65-70. That's what I built the truck and trailer for, highway towing. I really want to put a Cummins 6BT in it with a 5speed though, it would be good for 17-18mpg empty and about 14 towing if my friends various trucks are any indication.
Back before the 24v Cummins came out, there was a company doing a Ram 3500 4x4-based camper, huge thing with a Cummins and 5speed, that actually was tested by the magazine reviewing it to get 14mpg on the highway. Unreal, I got 6mpg out of a mini-home with a Ford 400.
