2 Part Numbers, Same Part, Different Prices?

210 820 63 26 MSRP $640
210 820 24 26 MSRP $620

Local Independent says that Local Dealer has these part numbers and prices. My parts supplier (fastlane) indicates that these are the same part, driver side HID control unit.

I got the part from Fastlane for $460 plus tax, replaced it and everything works....just wondering why the Dealer is giving 2 prices for what sounds like the same part?!

I suggested to my Indy that he use MBUSA's parts catalog - he shrugged.

Just my theory -- make money. Newer MBs tend to have drastically more expensive parts it seems. Currently, I'm testing if glow plug relay for 1985 300D is same as 1993 W124 2.5T . I heard the 1985 one works. You get it with 4 glow plugs for around 100.00. But you the W124 relay is around 150.00 on its own.

There must be some difference. According to the EPC, 210 820 24 26 is used up to serial number A 572000 and X 006253, and 210 820 63 26 is used after that. In my parts buying experience, Mercedes usually states whether a part is interchangable or supercedes/replaces another part in the EPC.

Maybe Fastlane sells a none OEM brand that is universal and fits both sides of the serial number change.

Yea... try an oil pan drain plug for a 300D at the majors...$14 and change for a Dorman plug.

The same Dorman part number is out there for $1.89
