Cost to reboot your own axles

My 82 has a crack forming on the cv boot, and my diff needs to be resealed, so I might as well be proactive and do it all at once.

If providing my own axles in good shape, how much would I be typically looking at to get them rebooted by a shop?

Thanks!

You could always call a few shops and ask...they may want to just replace the whole axle.

I don't want to replace, mine are fine and I don't know if the rebuilds I'd get were...

Plus i'm not sure who local would do this right... For all I know I'll need to ship them cross-country...

I think the cost will end up closer to $45 per Axle. The least expensive Boots and clamps would most likey have to have shipping charges added.
The common price for the Boots hovers around $17 (Dorman or Astoria Flex Boots).

No one has mentioned the cost of something to stectch them over the Axle. It seems about 1/3 of those who have tried the ATF Funnel Method have had problems with it; renting the Astoria Flexx Gun or even borrowing it for free but paying the shipping adds some expense to the total.

Im not looking to buy parts, and honestly, Im not looking for a DIY on this stuff.

The pros like to slap in replacement parts. So you'd have to find somebody who does this on a regular basis and thusly has the tool already. If you do it'll be pretty cheap. Keyword "if".

Shops mark up the cost of parts (it is part of their profit) and they buy for your and they buy from the Supplier that they have accounts (=credit) with; not from the least expensive place.

The best that can be done is to start calling shops and see if they can do the job and for how much.
I would start with places like Brake shops or Alignment shops first.
I have never see a shop advertised in my area that only does CV Axles so it must be that some regular shops do that work.

Besure to remind them that the Axles are supposed to be filled with Oil not Grease; if that is what you want.
