Interesting Analysis
Not really, when you consider that everything runs off one serpentine belt. It not only happened once, but twice. It was tested, as I suspected the compressor on that belt. And yes, the compressor was under a lot more pressure to work with the 134A, than Freeze 12 or R-12. So . . . no, am not smoking anything funny. The second one was about to snap when I brought it in for the valve job/clutch replacement. They had to weld it up to withstand the pull on it from the compressor . . . they tested it, and sure enough . . . but as with many shops, they were never a fan of the conversions.

Personally, i take it mine to a working class neighborhood indy shop. Since those of us who don't have a hundred grand to throw down for a new benz every year keep the old ones a long time. They've gotten it right every time. Took it to a new place today (!!) we'll see how they did when i get it back tomorrow.
