Cabin Air

Tried the search with no results to my question.
When the Air conditioner is operating will it pull air from the outside or only from the cabin? How can this be tested?
My system appears to be running OK but the air never gets really bone chilling cold, just very cool.
Question 2. The sight glass on top of the dryer. What should it look like it the gas OK? And if not?
Is the compressor supposed to pull the idle speed down real low, the engine shakes.
Thanks for your help guys.
Without this site I could not drive these cars.

Question 1: Depends on your settings, Recirculate will do just that, Cycle your air adding some in from outside I believe, the other settings will use some air from the outside but keep most of the inside air to keep it cool. least thats how it was explained to me awhile ago

Question 2: I dont know, I dont think I've ever seen a View port on an AC dryer before...I'd assume as long as there was no moisture clogging up the View port then your fine

When in recirculate you still get 20% outside air. The vent door and actuating vac pods are right behind the glove box. Easy to see if you take the glove box out.
If you have R12 the sight glass will have few if any bubbles when full and compressor is on. If you have R134 the glass will have lots of bubbles when full because full R12 takes about 35 oz, full 134 takes 80% or 28 oz. So you really need someone with gages to check pressures. Or so I'm told. I'm not an AC mechanic.

When the temp wheel is in the min cooling position you'll get the 80& 20% mix as stated above.
