non turbo wagon hp

are non turbo wagon automatics as slow as 240d automatics?im still considering buying a non turbo as its cheap and available ,i think its a 79 or 80.when i drove it ,it kept needing to downshift to keep up,i wondered if in proper tune does the car keep up on hills and freeway ramps or a slug like the 240d?

I've heard that the non-turbo 200 series are pretty sluggish... the 300 turbo series are a tad faster off the line and better climbers too. Mind you, the big majority of diesels of that vintage are kind of slow due to many factors: Vacuum issues, valves needing adjustment, clogged banjo bolt, ALDA unit issues... but the 300 series are noticeable quicker.

That is a very true statement, i have yet to drive 2 alike 300D's that accelerated in the same manner.

A 300TD non-turbo is faster than a 240D auto for sure.

I've owned NA and Turbo. I wouldn't buy an NA for high altitude driving unless it was an extremely good deal or happened to be in a G-Wagon.
