What valve is this?

Someone recommended that I could bypass this valve by putting the hose (colored green) into the fitting that the hose (colored red) is hooked up to. They said that I may see a power boost since I seem to be having low power issues.
I'd like to at least know what that valve is called before I bypass it.

The overboost valve of course... Usually plugged or stuck open. You can bypass but its worth having there in general. What you should also do is get rid of all the vac crap on top of the valve cover.

Yeah, mine is bypassed, no issues for many years, you have a waste gate on the turbo, so it's kinda redundant anyway.
And yes too, for getting rid of the stuff and associated lines on the cam cober.

Where the green line connects to the back of the intake manufold, is a banjo bolt. remove it and clean it out. they get gunked up with black stuff as a result of the EGR and oil etc.

make sure the green line to the Switch over valve is clean and open. the red lint to the ALDA also.

If you want to eliminate the SOV, connect the green line to where the red line connects to the ALDA.

The SOV is a safety if there is too much boost, and cuts the fuel boost back some. even thought the waste gate is suppose to dump the over boost.

I think I removed the guts of my SOV several yrs ago, and have been running it open W/O any problems. yet

My wagon is a 1984. It sounds like bypassing it would simplify things a bit. Do I need to plug up the holes of that switch if I decide to bypass the overboost?

^No, just connect the two pressure lines together. Someone did this before I bought it, you see a piece of reinforced line was used.

I bypassed the overboost last night. The vacuum lines were so brittle they cracked when I pulled it off. The banjo bolt was pretty clogged up so I cleaned it out the best I could. I do notice a little more power now. It seems to be shifting a little harder now. It hesitates a little more on shifting so the car sometimes jerks during the shift.

gimme a call, I drive near your area daily.
if you need spare hose, or help tuning this car.
vacuum smooths out the shifts, if you are shifting hard, there is likely a leak in the system.
it's also possible, the downshift button under the throttle pedal is stuck or broken.

I think the kickdown is working because it seems to cause a shift if I hit it. I'm definitely thinking vacuum leaks though. Is it a good idea to start by putting in new vacuum tubing? I just replaced the one hose last night.

There are many vacuum line connectors, those would be the first items to replace.
