Syntec is not a blend, it is a group iii, iv, v blended oil.
Just like M1. Syntec just gets a black eye because it was the first going to group III syn as the primary basestock. But it is not a blend; blends of group iii, iv, v synthetics are not considered blends. |
Not all Syntech are group 3 either. If you look at the labels, there is a 5w-30 or is it 0w-30 that is made in Germany. It is sold at Autozone. It is suppose to be a group 4. I have never used it.
Also, I recently read (on BOITOG) that Ford Motorcraft has a new diesel oil out. 5w-30. Now, I used to run the Syntech 5w-30 in one of my Ford Contours. I never had any real problems with it. I did try M1. I didn't like it, but I think I used 20w-50. Not good in that car. I did run Shaeffers, the blend. It did OK. I swithced to Pennsoil Platinum, in both of my Contours. They seemd to like it. They aren't deisel rated though. I think M1 did a formulation switch about 4-5 years ago. They won't release their formulation. I here its a mixture of group 3 and group 4, possibly group 5. I did hear Ferrari ran Shell Helix group 3 in their F1 engines at some point. Now wht they ran and what's on the shelf are very different though. Tom |

Gc is primarily grp iv. There truly is no benefit to grp iv or v vs iii, oyther than cold flow. Iii is better in many key practical areas. The value proposition and inferiority argument of grp iii holds no water. |
