Strange Handbrake Issue

Hi,
Some tinkering/welding work has been done in the undercarriage near the handbrake brackets I dont know if they have been shifted in anyway the tinkerer says no I've also had a look underneath and he seems to have avoided touching that area so I cant see any changes made to the position of the brackets from what I can see they look like they are in they're original places.
we dont know if the old handbrake cable had been broken before and had been fixed up so I dont know if any changes have been made in the length to the cable, but this is the handbrake cable we got the car with, but the tinkerer burned this cable and it kinda got melted inside so we had to get a new cable made although we used the same old ends of the old cable on the new one, the cable was measured exactly with the old one and is the same length but some how the inner actual metal cable that moves in and out (not the rubber cover) seem's to be too long I've set it up according to the manual and sent it through the correct holes ect in the body, strangely the old cable had this problem too recently, but this same old cable was present when the handbrake was working too
the nut on the bracket had been adjusted to its max too
could someone give me the length of the cable ?
I'm kinda weirded out here

Handbrake Type: Pistol Grip (near the steering wheel)
Car: 75, 240D, W115, RHD

PS: the handbrake had'nt been used lately because the pad's had worn out, now they are replaced.
