Unhappy 83 TD drivers rear footwell filling with water. guess where from

I figured window seal, or plugged spring pocket causing rust, or possibly a sunroof drain issue.
nope.
I checked the door seals, slight tear at the top of the rear door, not it.
it'll blow your mind if you don't guess it.

My '85 had the same problem when the a/c drain hose died. Condensed water vapor is supposed to drain out of the a/c case through a hole in the transmission tunnel. When the hose fails (usually due to age) the water flows down the driver's side floor panel and puddles in the lowest spot, which is the LR footwell.

Ugh. The dreaded foam condensate line... Get a disposal stepped hose in there STAT.

There's just some things on these cars that leave me scratching my head. Kind of like a nice semi-precious stone set in an aluminum band...

nope. no a/c heck, I've not gotten this car on the road yet, it's been parked in my yard under a tarp for the last 3 years...
I just pulled it out of storage, and started getting it ready to drive, and discovered the water pooling in the footwell.
started in all the likely places, nothing.
found the cable grommet in the fenderwell area to be pushed out, and some moron ran an alarm cable through the hole. I got a pic, it's amazing this idiot didn't set the car on fire.

arrrgh! nope, the windshield was the first thing I checked, tight and leak free.
it turned out to be the grommet for the hood release cable.
the idiot PO pushed out that grommet to route an alarm cable. why did he choose a low grommet with NO room for more than one cable? I mean directly above that cable is a HUGE grommet with several unused sections for routing more wires. WTF??? why push out a VERY HARD to put back in grommet? it makes no sense.

The most common source of water in the rear footwells is plugged drains in the hood hinge pockets and underneath battery and master cylinder.

A little over ten years ago, that was one of the first things I learned here at Mercedes Shop. I had dealt with the swimming pool in the rear floor board for several years before that. A fellow from Scandinavia put me onto the solution.

Gotta love that Mshop!

i bought a car from a retard once. he punched a small hole in the passenger floor under the carpet and without any attempt at deburring ran a + wire to the electric fuel pump he had installed. one day i pulled into 7-11 and the car filled up w/ smoke. melted the wire and carpet insulation. moral is morons don't have any sense.

fortunately, my wagon is rust free, and all the drains are clear in the engine compartment! there is a tiny spot where paint is chipped off, under the battery tray, that needs some cleaning and paint though. I'm working on it!

I'm still working on it. DAMN it's tough!
I figure I'm gonna have to push on it with a pair of needle nose, or vice grips and press the edges in with a tiny screwdriver... not there yet... still gotta change the motor mounts, and replace the air cleaner mount... among other, oh so many other things.
