What do you know about window regulators?
So I have a problem with the window 'lift' on my 300CD, front drivers side. The regulator (AKA 'window lift') is working very badly because the part that the window fits into .... sort of a long 'U' shaped thing is rusted and collapsing. If I buy a new one....... does it even come with that 'U' shaped piece? Or does it come with just the rest of it?
(I hope this made sense)

No, a new regulator does not come with a guide for the window to ride in. Good luck.

JY said that regulator from several years will fit the door. Motor must match the regulator. I'd pull the whole thing & lube the tracks so the regulator doesn't get bent (and ruined). Regulator and motor $100 from the highest price yard around here but they pull the part.

Thanx 4 the info, '2 many'. When time and weather permit I may pull it all outta there and see if I can braze it all back together with some new metal as well. -though I don't have a lot of spare time. I see OES new ones for $323 and $204.... And a new Dorman Window Regulator for $55 ....!!!!!.... So are these Dorman ones totally junk? Because the stock ones are obviously no screaming heck anyway. I mean how much worse could the Dormans be? Any of you fellas try them?

I have only ever seen a few diesel benzs at the wreckers up here and never a coupe. Rare as hens teeth in Canada. Must be the fear of winter starting.... Also when the turbo is just kicking in it is easy to lose traction on snow, on a hill or in the mountains - god knows I have scared myself a few times!
