help with engine shut down
I have a 79 300d automatic trans that has been shutting down slowly.
Today it would not stop at all. I used the emergency shut down and it didnt work either. I had to pinch the fuel line to stop it. I know I need to fix it, but is there any other way to shut down? Thanks Bat |
No. Try putting a piece of vacuum hose in place of the brown plastic vacuum line on the shut off valve on the back of the IP between the IP and oil filter housing. With the engine running, give a couple of strong sucks on the vacuum line. If you can shut it off with your mouth, the shut off diaphragm is functional and you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere else.
If you're not currently up to chasing down the vacuum leak, run the vacuum hose out thru the cowling end of the hood and you'll be able to suck it off without having to open the hood. |
Thanks Kerry,
Now I'm wondering since the emergencey shut down isnt working, is there a problem within the pump itself? Bat |
Probably not, just a linkage issue. Is your manual idle control knob turned all the way up?
