Just an update

Worked on the 83 300D today. GOt the LED issue in the dash figured out so all is well there. Decided to change the power steering fluid and filter. When I got in there it was a mess. The fluid looked like old diesel motor oil! Got it all sucked out and found NO filter, just the metal cap piece (the one with the holes) sitting on a spacer that looked like the fiber center round piece from a roll of electrical tape! Good grief. Put in a new filter and fluid. Ran it and moved the wheel. Sucked out all the crap again and refilled. Sounds and feels noticeably better.

On to the thermostat. Drained the coolant, put in a new stat (old one looked original!!) refilled, no leaks, heats up properly, and WOW, does the cabin heat ever work now!

Wonder what else got neglected or monkey rigged on this car that the PO didn't mention.

Glenn

how sadly familiar. Its hard to really believe just how many hacks are out there in all facets of automotive work.

Ive been doing body work on my 240, and was amused to discover that most of the lower door and fender trim had been attached with drywall screws. Creating rust everywhere.

Its amusing that you need a license to charge people to fix a toilet, but all you need is tools to charge someone to work on their car.

My left rear door panel's bottom is a crazy mix of rust and old bondo.

THIS.

Was washing my wagon the other day and found this on the driver's front fender. [facepalm]. Ugh.

I can't wait to strip this body and get it redone.

LOL! Me too, license plate rockers and christmas cookie tin floor pans, and my personal favorite-

A sweater dipped in concrete and stuffed into the cab corner of a bronco. What a surprise that was.

(all this was on the same bronco, which inexplicably also had been nicely recarpeted after these clown college repairs.)

Your so right about low quality work on cars these days. The PO on my car didn't even have a oil stick in the oil tube. I mean come on really. She didn't take car of the car at all. But I guess that's why I picked it up for close to nothing.

But vstech a screw in the bondo, that takes the cake. hahaha
