We live in a cynical world... I must be naive.

I believed the pastor when he told me he special ordered this van at a Mercedes Benz dealership in 2006. I presented what I knew about the van from the previous owner, including the fact that it is titled a "Dodge".

You can believe what you want. It is what it is.

It is a MB van, but back then they were sold as Dodges. Turning them back to Mercedes was easy enough, so many did that. All he has to do is look at the title for definitive proof. If it says Mercedes, then he's right. Most likely, it will say Dodge.
Some good points. Even if it turns out to be a Mercedes-Benz, I still believe there are a lot of Dodge/Chrysler and Freightliner parts used to assemble this van.

Here we clearly have a 2500 model numbered van. The OP originally claimed it was a model 319 or somesuch - yet we see the signage on the van as; 2500. He recanted, however both model numbers cannot be correct......or can they? Perhaps this is actually a 319 model number, re-badged as a 2500?

I would take a stab at looking at the VIN number and it's associated stamped information affixed to a door jamb & the Carfax on the vehicle. And for good measure - a copy of the State of Texas Title to help clear this up. Perhaps the seller wouldn't mind posting attachments proving such?

My 1999 E300TD's MSO & State of Texas title state that it's model is: E300TD yet many clowns run around claiming that Mercedes-Benz doesn't know what they're printing on their own manufacturer's statement of origin - the MSO. Just because something is badged X, doesn't mean it's X. These people have serious problems with facts, and have thusly been marginalized by their own propoganda.

You can see the badge on the grill that says 316 CDI, on the photograph I posted. I mistakenly read it as 319. Tough crowd...

RE: 316 CDI

Ah, I see it now - thanks much!

What does the VIN metal plate reveal?

That would just about ice it as a real/genuine Mercedes-Benz product.

On the '2500' badging......that to me indicates it's suspension capacity - just as Dodge/Chrysler badge their pickups: 1500, 2500, and 3500. Of course this denotes non-metric weight capacities. So, I am wondering if there is such thing as a metric-badging on the exteriors of the true non-US MB vans for European use?

If the title says Dodge, what was the question again?

I have an idea, sell it with the 108 form describing it as a Mercedes-Benz, then see if you get a lawsuit when the new owner gets a Dodge title.

The non-US Sprinters have no such badging.

I used to run a fleet of sprinters back in Denmark where i'm from. The van in question is a U.S. market Sprinter (Dodge or Freightliner). The most obvious giveaway is the "2500" on the side which is a Dodge designation. The second most obvious giveaways is the U.S. specific cloth pattern. Lastly the repacement hood is misaligned with the new grill and the turn siglans are U.S. spec. It is allso missing the U.S. mandated, side running lights. This does not make it any less of a vehicle. But call it what it is and never trust a man because of his title...

Yes, I guess we tend to be a cynical crowd. Luckily I don't consider myself cynical or I would think the above is a "light hard sell".
Good thing you set us straight and let us know it was a public service......

Well, it looks to me after reading H-TownBenzOBoy and 94mgm's posts, and viewing the associated van pictures - the MB van that Jeffery Read, aka; JefferyNMemphis, has presented here, is some sort of a U.S. 'Hybrid' if you will - a cross between a Mercedes-Benz and a Dodge Sprinter van. It's obviously got the telltale MB stuff - however, it has many of the markings of a Dodge Sprinter van too.

If I was a plumber or contractor or something where I had a couple work trucks, I'd buy sprinters because I am trendy and think I am european and cool. I would then buy the kits to convert them all to look like sprinters because that kind of stuff is cool to me. Maybe the PO was like that. As far as special ordering, I don't think you can walk into a dealer an order a E280 so I don't know why they'd sell you a van.

Hello Peaches,

I was wrong. I was wrong. I was wrong. Today I am eating humble pie...

On "Skid Row Joe's" suggestion, I pulled the car fax. The vehicle was serviced by the "Dodge" dealer. So I called the original owner who traded it to me and asked him about the purchase and badging. He bought it at a Dodge dealer. As "H-TownBenzBoy" suggested, the Pastor did buy a kit including the window sticker that says "Mercedes Benz Product". The Aluminum Alloy wheels are Mercedes, he switched out the center caps. The engine is the Mercedes diesel 316CDI, he added the grill with the 316CDI badge.

He did not tell me he bought the vehicle at a Mercedes Benz dealer. He told me he special ordered the vehicle. I made statements about it being a Mercedes Benz and he didn't correct me accept to say it was special ordered and titled as a Dodge.

I was wrong. I was wrong. I was wrong. I heard him say it was titled as a Dodge. He said it was a Mercedes Sprinter. He said it was special ordered, so I assumed that meant from the Mercedes Benz dealership.

I feel stupid now, but better informed. I was wrong...

Thanks for clearing it up. It's still an MB as far as I am concerned.
MB does use a consistent numbering system for it's vans in Europe. 316cdi is it. 3=3 tons 16=160 horsepower. CDI should be obvious. They've had vans numbered 206d, 207d, 307d, 407d, 309d, 409d, 312d etc.

Any "good" salesman knows when it's time to back off and suck-up to the crowd, expect another "public service" posting soon that it is still available.
