Brake and signal lights out on '82 240D

My 1982 240D abruptly lost its brake lights and signal lights at the inspection shop. Trip to shop was wet(slushy) and everything appeared to work OK when I left home. Fuses are old but appeared OK though corrosion may be an issue. Any idea what might have happened? Thanks.

I think mine was fuse 12 not making good contact. If you have the aluminum fuses, they get dissimilar metal action, which causes them to not make good contact. Remove fuse, clean contacts with wire brush and replace is what I did. I still have to order the copper fuses to replace mine.

I had this happen once on my 300D. It turned out to be an easy fix with fuses. I had those plastic ones in there and it melted on the backside and broke contact even though everything else looked fine! I would look for the copper/ceramic ones and they were made this way for a good reason!

I've been using the plastic ones, with copper inserts for years. #12 is a white, 8 amp fuse.

Check and make sure the four way switch on the console is not pressed halfway, in other words not all the way off. During inspection they may have checked your flashers and not turned the switch all the way off, causing the malfunction.
