call me a phillistine, but i think the kiss rule applies. my td had it removed before i got it, also some @$$#0!e apparently stole the 15mm rear sway bar if that part ain't mythical anyway. stay on me and i'll let you know how it rides when i get the springs replaced and if i can get a thicker sway bar than that joke 13mm bar.

15mm sway bar was a super rare option only found on SLS equipped vehicles with Heavy duty towing package. Also SLS equipped long bodies. They are now NLA. Some people have been cutting and welding their own 17mm and 19mm. I sure wouldnt mind a 17mm, my 15mm still gives to much imo.

someone here was thinking of making a run of thicker bars. i hope he goes for it, cause i would love to have a thicker bar. i'm sure some non sls springs would help quite a bit, too.

The adventure begins.

Thanks again for everyone's input.

Congrats on the purchase. I have a California wagon too. I don't find it troublesome as is and it performs fine.

Found out today the trap cat on this california wagon has never been replaced. Local dealer said they will replace it. Not usually a big deal, but a bonus for me since the exhaust sound i heard during my test drive was coming from where the trap connects to the exhaust. Service rep at dealership was somewhat shocked that there are still cars out there that have yet to come in for the trap recall.

Will they replace my turbo under this recall if it is not functioning correctly? Now that would be a coup!

According to the service records I got with my car the turbo was replaced as part of the recall. The turbo looked new too. If you don't mind my asking - what dealer are you using?

The work was done for a prior owner in March 2003 in Florida. The complaint was "weak acceleration". According to the invoice a step is check the turbo for damage. The turbo must have been damaged because it was replaced at N/C.

Congrats on the new TD. now the fun starts working your way through the problems. #1 priority problem will constantly change as you work along.

Why have the Trap replaced? get rid of that junk, it is a Calif only add on. with a trap that has been on for a long time, they will plug up and cut back on the power.

when we got our 85 it was sluggish. Dealer checked when it was replaced last, 50,000 miles. suppose to be every 30k.
after it was replaced, there was a noticable improvement. at higher altitudes you will notice a considerable lack of get up and go. this is say 5000 ft and higher. up around 7000 ft have the wife get back there and push.

when we removd all that junk and changed it like a 83, it was a rocket even at the higher levels.

Trap Cat recall 85 300TD (cali)

Update on my trap cat recall: Dealer is going to replace the trap cat under recall, but they have quoted me $400+ to replace a faulty exhaust manifold gasket (loud exhaust leak) and the thermostat gasket, which is not covered under the recall. I'm told the cost to replace these gaskets would be higher, but they are using some of the labor hours from the recall work that overlap to reduce the price. Can this be correct? Isn't all the labor in replacing the trap cat what is already necessary to change the gaskets on the exhaust manifold and thermostat anyway? Doesn't the turbocharger have to come off on either repair?
