my 240d has trouble finding reverse

i have a 1980 240d and in order to get it into reverse i have to move it inbetween neutral and reverse until it engages, once engaged its fine. sometimes takes me 30 sec and sometimes 1. any tips or annyone having the same problem? thanks in advance

Hope for, Shifter Bushings,being the problem

'Sounds like it.
[Having to "Stage" it in between Two different gears sounds like the Bushing(s)
are gone ,and that's why you've lost the exact rod length necessary]

(Otherwise,"Hunting' for Reverse is usually one of the signs of an upcoming rebuild.)
