1970 220d rear wheel bearing question
Hello.. I recently put a different differential in my 220d car. While doing this I decided to use the axle shafts that came with it, because they were in a bit better shape..
After putting it all back together I went to put the original axle bolt back into the shaft, but found that the newer ones had a smaller bolt with a spacer. My question is, Does that spacer regulate the bearing pre-load? Or Are the rear hubs "fully floating", and the bolt just holds the axle from slipping in and out?

hubs are fully floating. I put a 1967 230 automatic 6 shaft in my old 300D years ago, it was a little different. It worked for several 100k miles no problem.
