What? Your kidding. Hilarious. But I love a good excuse for playing hooky and taking a road trip with the family. When did you get yours? Was it off craigslist around new year? I got mine Jan 18th off craigslist. I had seen one in Nashville get away at new year and got to reading how rare they were on this forum and how much better and cheaper they are than my sisters Passat wagon TDI and then saw mine in Indiana the night it was posted. The guy didn't even mention it had a trailer hitch. I was up there the next night.

It was fun but after a long drive and skiing that day, 10:00 pm in winter is not the best time to buy a car.

nice MB video thread about the 124 with a prominent TD showing, and some nice concept cutaways!

Got mine in March IIRC, from the forum. Better weather than January for trailering.

I'll resurrect this thread as I am a first time Benz owner and just got my hands on this little beauty. As soon as I lose the horrible chrome arches and wheels It'll be basically exactly what I was looking for!

Here's mine on the trailer bring it home last year...

I also just bought the 85 300D pictured here. Thinking of putting the wheels and tires from that on the wagon if they will work. Haven't had them off yet to check...

Wow. What's the story with that one? You have a build thread somewhere? What model/year are those wheels off of?

auspumpen 06-18-2012 05:46 PM

I've forgotten what exact model they're originally from, but I think some folks refer to them as C7s?

lt1fire 06-18-2012 06:10 PM

Wanted a wagon sooo bad but couldn't find one

were the 603 powered wagons only in 87??

auspumpen 06-18-2012 06:18 PM

For us here in NA, 1987 was the only year they were offered. Most of the rest of the world got them for nearly the entire model run.

Super nice!!

warmseth 06-19-2012 03:34 PM

Can you tell us more about the 5spd conversion? or is there a link where you talk about it in more detail? Also, what's updated about the hood (I'm new and unfamiliar with the nuances)

notice the painted area outside the grille on his wagon, and the fog lamp shape on it as well, compare it to this stock 87 front grille from an earlier post.http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...2006/Wagon.jpg

warmseth 06-19-2012 04:29 PM

Ah yes. very nice. is that off one of the later models of w124 wagon...199x?

And more about this 5 speed trans I'm eager to hear about it.

I'd love it but my I already bought my wife another car (she sadly doesn't love wagons)

I was looking for one for myself before I bought the SDL but I have that now

the headlights from a gasser/diesel 94/95 along with the hood swap right onto the wagon!

warmseth 06-19-2012 07:49 PM

You're being a bit coy about explaining the 5 speed. You know that, right? ;)

I was lucky to find a 86 E300 at my local pick a part I pull off every thing need it for the conversion and I said lucky because Mercedes only imported around 300 of this E300 in 1986. It can be done using parts from a 190E the only parts different in the 190 are the drive shaft and the transmission support and the flywheel has to be able to take a 9 inch clutch disc my is 9.5 no problems so far after almost two years

Pretty darn slick. Too bad that tranny seems like the unicorn of merc parts. I'd love to know how it feels to drive. The trans on this car is my least favored aspect of the car. But then again, out of 37 cars this is the 4th that has not had a manual trans. So maybe I just don't like slushboxes. ;)
