There is a 76 240D W115 in our local PNP not in too bad of shape, only bad rust I saw was a 2 1/2 - 3 inch bubbling on the L/R panel just behind the wheel. over all, not in too bad of condition.

Well that sounds like an easy project - I'll pass on that. Luckily most of the W114s / W115s over here are held together with filler, a hope and a prayer. I want to see if I can be a real metal basher; I've got a good start with my W123 but all in all it isn't as bad as it could have been. I want a real crumbling wreck next time.

Does the gauge in the IP ever go bad? My gauge goes flippy at the 7/8th level. The needle jiggles a bit, and sometimes flips all the way from stop to stop. After the fuel goes down a bit more, it seems ok. On one tank of 4 or 5, the gauge stayed stuck at full until the tank ran out of fuel. 1987 190D, 2.5 Turbo

Can the float from a 190E gasser be used in a diesel fuel tank?

If you car is x number of years old, chances are the the SENDER unit located in the top of the fuel tank is going bad, or is about to go bad. Similar symptoms as the ones you described started happening to my car, a 95 E320, and one day the gauge at the front instrument panel just stay stuck in empty, even though I have just fill the car with fuel.
My advise is to change your Sender unit, is a easy job and take less than half hour. If you search on this forum for my name blueriomedina, it should show you the threads on this job, with pictures of the job.

Good luck

Oscar

The only ones I can find are in this thread posts 37 and 38

Did you put them somewhere else as well?

They're good pictures

Army

Yes, I have posted 9 pictures for this job I believe is post #37, page 4, for this forum, and yes i might have posted them in the diesel DIY and gasoline engines DIY, Do the search for all my the post.

a few things, make sure your tank is at least half empty, disconnect battery, a simple wide mouth wrench will do to unscrew top of sender attach to top of fuel tank ,buy a new part, the heart of the sending unit are two thin wire filaments, and the unit works akin to the way a toilet works.

Let me know if I can be of any further help

Oscar
