'87 300SDL oil leak
I replaced my transmission in my '87 300SDL @ 285,000 miles. It had problems since I got the car at 258,000 and finally stopped shifting altogether. Here's the problem. I had a parts car with a rebuilt transission with 100 miles on it. Using a lift I removed the old transmission, replace it with the new used one. No problems whatsoever with removing or replacing. I start the car up while still on the lift to check for leaks, I see a a steady drip, drip, drip. Maybe a drip every two seconds. Pretty significant. I assume it's transmission fluid, oddly it's not, it's oil. Dripping right from under the bell housing of the transmission. Any ideas what happened? I can't see where the oil is coming from. The engine was supported with a second transmission jack the whole time it was in the air, it never moved.
