psfred,

Thanks again for the info. I have been using a 27mm openface wrench to turn the large nut on the base of the ALDA. If I am understanding you correctly...I should be holding another nut on the bottom of the flat side of the ALDA while loosening the large lower nut. Is this correct?

I have a 10mm capscrew with a t-30 fitting on the inside. I have found more leverage in this tight environment with the socket.

I just looked under the hood again- as the car is apart in the garage- how did you manage ie. what do you use to get two wrenches in there at the same time? If I am remembering the fundamentals of physics properly, "two objects can not occupy the same space at the same time."

psfred,

Thanks once again for the great info. I successfully replaced the solenoid yesterday afternoon. Just one tug in the right direction and the ALDA spun right off. It was tricky trying to get the new soleniod's horizontal catch to engage the lever inside the IP. After that it was just putting all the stuff back on. I did take out he washer fluid reservoir and disconnected as many electrical and vacuum lines as possible. This made it a lot easier. Threads like this make the forum worth its a furtune.

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, didn't get home it way too late!

I removed the windshield washer tank on the W124, no way to get to the ALDA otherwise.

Yes, the pin on the solenoid isn't very long, and can be a pain to engage.

But this is all still much faster than removing the intake manifold, eh?

Glad you got it done right -- this is one of those jobs you can almost do with your eyes closed once you've successfully done it once -- harder to tell someone how than to do it!

Peter
