That's why you buy both.

To the OP, do that, buy both.

Or buy the m271 and the om617. You've got both with the m271.

Nothing compares to the 616 617 for simplicity of maintenance but the 280e and my 84 500 sec came close.

If maintained the W123/W126 diesels will practically never break. We've not had any in our fleet have any issues in a looong time. And I drive mine 25k a year......all I've done in the past 15k is a few oil changes, thats it. Same for the gasser....

My E320 gets around 25mpg combined, not terrible, but the extra hp is nice some times. My daughter's runs stronger and doesn't have ASR, will smoke the tires off the line for about a block, rev-limits out in 2nd gear. Not bad for a heavy old six-banger. I stopped buying her fuel and tires.

I have both. The gasser is a simple point-and-shoot vehicle, quieter and easier to fuel, starts in any weather without glowing first and rattling. On top of that, if you need basic maintenance most any "import" shop will look at it, but not at the diesels.

The gasser is for sale, not unusual enough.

Did you swap the transmission on the '95? Wasn't it having issues a while back?
