Guys,

How many quarts of ATF will I need to refill the transmission to its proper level? I'll empty the torque converter when I change the fluid.

Thanks.

I just changed mine and it took 5.25. I poured in four and then started to put in half at a time, checking the stick. the closer it gets to te top the faster/less needed to get to the mark. Also check your owners manual. Mine called for 10.2 pints on refill I used 5.25 quarts or 10.5 pints, pretty close.

I am about to do a complete fluid change on my '83 300TD. The factory fill was 7.7 quarts. This is per the owner's manual. If you were doing just a standard fluid/filter change it would be 6.6 quarts. I plan on using Mobil 1 synthetic.

Yep...I will also use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF...I just bought 5 quarts @ $4.99 each at AutoZone (because the manual calls for 5 quarts) but sometimes there are discrepancies between reality and the manual, that's why I asked the MB gurus of this board who've done it all on these cars.

The car just rolled 150,000 miles and the engine and transmission run like a charm. I know the engine is very sturdy, but I don't kow about those transmissions...(I had a really bad experience with the transmission of a 1977 450SEL). That's why I'll use the best oil for it.
