96 E300 MYSTERY FUEL LEAK

Hi again, I just replaced the seals and washers of the delivery valve IP, when the engine is cold there's fuel leaking at the back of the SOV, But after a few minutes running revving the leak stops totally. I check the fuel hoses, the hard lines it's all good. And after doing the DV, I washed the car in the driveway it's like parking uphill the engine higher than the tank. After washing I started the car, it won't start. It took me 7 ten second tries until it started. What can be the problem? Thanks in advance for the replys!!!

If it's leaking fuel behind the shut off valve then air is getting into the injection pump while the car sits, so you have to purge the air before it will run. You'll need to replace the O-ring behind the shut off valve if that is in fact where the leak is. If the plastic fuel lines and/or O-rings on them aren't new you may have disturbed one or more of them. Any leak will do ... and cause the starting problem you describe. Might as well pull the intake manifold and replace all the O-rings and/or plastic lines while you're in there.

If your car didn't start right away after doing delivery valves, that's normal, probably just got some air in the hard lines. Wouldn't hurt to pull the intake and have a good look at the shutoff valve, there are two clear lines at the bottom and an o-ring in the middle... any of them could be leaking.

Perhaps the Old O-rings srank some. When they get hot they expand some and seal until they get cold again.

Expansion and contraction of the oring or more likely the metal surrounding the oring....
