WI question...no, not Wisconsin...

Has anyone ever tried to use a (or many) fuel injectors (piezo or otherwise) to atomize the water mixture into the intake manifold? what about a fuel pump to pump the water? I'm going to have a set of K-jet injectors and a pump in the future, and wouldn't mind being able to use them for something..

I don't see why you would want to inject water or Leinenkugel (if in Wisconsin) into your cylinders.

Google. Its for power, cleaning and cooling.

Its been done for decades and there are kits specifically for automotive engines. All you need is a tank, pump, pressure switch, solenoid and nozzle. One less part if you tap the washer tank. I use a 1gph nozzle on mine mainly for keeping the engine carbon-free, but it gives a little more kick too without needing to screw with the diesel injection pump.

Intake Manifold

Mine doesn't come with an intake manifold, so I haven't tried that. How would you go about doing that on an OM617A engine?

Water injection is done via a nozzle plumbed into the intake manifold, POST turbocharger and before the air is distributed throughout the manifold.

And your what doesn't come with an intake manifold?
The 617 is still in the donor car right now. It should be ready to go, but it's been sitting for 2 years so I'll fire it up when I get it to the house after I make some room in the gararge.. Going to strip the car and scrap the shell. (watch for item postings in the 'for sale' threads)

'83 300SD. No intake manifold here... My '87 Caddy has an IM, though. Might try that on the Caddy

How can there not be an intake manifold? Unless, of course it was removed...

PanzerSD,

http://www.turbomirage.com/water.html

This site tells you how to build it yourself. it's been in the back of my mind for a while. It would be nice even if you were only running water to have it inject while the engine is boosting, it would keep you EGTs low.

My friend has it on his dodge. and it works quite well. towing a trailer up the grapevine with the same EGTs and driving across kings county on I-5

Water only will not increase performance, only cool the EGTs. but a 50/50 mix of water and methanol is ideal according to my friend with the dodge. you can get 60% water and 40% methanol at walmart for 1$ a gallon, its the blue windshield washer fluid. if you add a bottle of Heet radiator fluid additive to the blue stuff you get a 50/50 mix. Heet is just pure methanol.

you might get better replies if this were in the performance section... where the crazy people live

This is the Kit my friend has on his Dodge... but this is the kit they told me would work on the Mercedes.

Well, it's a diesel... I didn't know whether my engine had an intake manifold; I've never seen it... The diesel goes from the tank through the lines, then to the filters, then to the injection pump, then to the injectors, then the gases go through the turbo and then to the exhaust... no intake manifold. On my Caddy yeah, I've seen it, drilled it, messed badly with it and now I need a new one But my Benz has no intake Manifold per se.

LOL cirrusman is right!

Note #32... its not an intake manifold (even thought we all know thats what is really is) MB calls it a "Charge air distribution pipe" that sounds so much better then manifold.

EVERY engine...and I mean EVERY engine (even lawn mowers) have intake manifolds..Can't have air fuel mixture without on on aa gas, and need one to build boost pressure on a diesel. I DON'T recomment water injection on a gasoline engine unless it's been re-engineered to NOT break con rods.

Well, if OM 617s don't have an intake manifold, then i don't know what this part is:

An intake manifold distributes air to the inlet valves, any engine with more than one cylinder has one, even those that have one cast into the head.

Awesome The reason that you don't see the intake manifold is because of the air cleaner and the turbocharger nestled up underneath. if you can find your EGR valve (if eqquipped, it's attatched to the exhaust manifold which is intertwined with the intake.
