I have a new 1985 190d. I bought it on cragislist and before the seller could meet me halfway from his house to mine--he lost his transmission. It happens!
So I bought it anyway, and mashed my old 190d and his 190d together, and ended up with a pretty nice car. I was able to shed 130,000 miles in the process . (And about $2000 including car, new parts, towing, and hired teenagers-- the best way to pull engines is with a teenager under the car and you yelling encouragement from above)
His was an unmolested engine compartment, and all the EGR was intact. I hooked it all up faithfully. Anyway-- now I get the following symptoms--
Starts perfectly. no smoke. Idles at 750 rpm. After a few minutes, the idle jumps by itself to 1250. I can push it back manually. like a sticky throttle cable, but its the jumping up by itself that is the problem.
Also have a low shift point now and mildly sharp shifts. I've been adjusting the trans cable by shortening the bar across the valve cover but maybe this is the wrong place to do that... There is a nylon nut on the throttle cable, but perhaps the 201's have a different adjustment from the trans from you 123 people.....
