1996 E300/W210 Power Steering Pump Filter
Hi,
I see on various online parts sites that there is a power steering filter for the E300. Can someone please describe or show pics of how/where it is and how to replace it? Thanks in advance!

I wonder why the parts links reference the filter as belonging to that model...seems strange. If no filter, is it possible that there is an integrated filter in the reservoir?

Not according to my mechanic, but I would be happy to be proved wrong. If you are really "downunda," maybe there is a different version of the ps pump that has a filter, not sold in the US of A.
EPC shows a picture with a filter, item #137, but the text says "Item no. not valid for this model des." The picture looks like the PS pump in my 1987 300D Turbo (W124, OM603), which does have a filter. Jeremy

in the reservoir of most of the older cars, there is a plastic piece w/ a spring under it. it is held on to the center stud w/ a 6mm nut. drain the reservoir, you'll see the filter below the spring. unscrew the nut, pull the plastic piece and the spring. you can hook the filter which has 6 holes in it w/ a pick or a couple of pocket screw drivers to pull it out. every 30k service the fluid should be sucked out of the reservoir and the filter changed, or so we did at the dealer.

My 1996 E300D does indeed have one. American purchased. Have had it changed twice already. It is a pain as the reservoir has to come off. But there definetly is one in there. I will post pics next time I do it.

the PS pump filter is built into the reservoir itself. You need to change the reservoir complete, The old engines had a filter that was held at the bottom of the fluid reservoir.
