The good news:

On Friday morning I stopped at an O'Reillys and picked up primary and secondary fuel filters. When I pulled the primary, I found that it was loaded with crap. I changed both filters. I also added some cetane boost.

I got back on the road and the difference was evident immediately. I sailed through 75 mph with no hesitate or pulsating. At one point I briefly touched 95 mph but did not want to take it up any further for fear of getting a ticket. Gas mileage was up around 27 mpg. Traffic was cruising along at around 80mph through Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas.

Now the bad news:

I left the car with my son in Plano, TX and before I got back home on the plane, he had had an accident. I have not seen pictures yet but I am fearing that it might be totaled. He was making a left hand turn at an intersection and did not see an oncoming car. Hit her in the left rear passenger door. He said there was oil and antifreeze on the ground and had to have the car towed back home. Thankfully no one was hurt.

I'll be posting another thread to see if anyone is around the Plano / Dallas area that could look at the car for me.

Yea, me too. I am pretty bummed out right now but realize that part of it is that I am tired from all the travel over weekend. I have already inquired about the process of keeping the car even if it is totaled. It looked and drove like a new car. As evident from my signature below, if you have your settings set to view it, the car only has 45K miles on it.

I am guessing that I am looking at at hood, grill, bumper, left fender, radiator, oil cooler radiator, transmission radiator, all the lines that go with those, light assemblies, fan, etc. Don't know if the frame was bent but that would be a whole 'nother story.

I would have to figure out the best way to get it back up to PA. I am guessing that towing it behind another car or renting a flatbed, if that is possible, would be my best options. But I need to see what the adjuster comes back with first.

I rented an auto trailer from Uhaul last year. 24 hours cost me ~$60. A dolly was about $50 but they didnt have any.

Good luck

Everything you listed is a bolt-on part, and plentiful, and could be pre-sourced and on-site. I'd rather consider flying down to TX with some tools and doing the repairs there over 6k miles of driving.

The radiator will fix both the coolant and trans cooler. The oil cooler from a yard will probably come with the lines; check EPC to see if the cooler or radiator are the same as a 126 with a 617A. Be sure to inspect the fan/clutch/water pump and PS pump for strike damage.

From your sig, I suspect your '84 might need some ALDA adjustment if it's that much slower than the long-geared '85.
