tow bar towing ???

Has anyone removed the front bumper and connected a tow bar to a diesel Mercedes? I know, must disconnect the driveshaft from the differential in order to not burn up the transmission.

I have towed many miles with a mercedes on a tow bar. Removing the bumper and bolting the tow bar to the bolts works but the bolts do not have a lot of strength and if you are not extremely careful they will pull out.

I recomment using a plate that attaches to all three bolts and if tight turning is needed start the engine so the power steering is working.

I always just towed with the flashers working and since a diesel uses so little fuel at idle often simply let it idle.

in the owner's manual, a tow start is recommended to use a tow bar, not a rope/chain.

If you let the engine idle you don't have to unhook the driveshaft either.
