Mercedes Dealer does not sell parts for w123's anymore?

I was in a pinch the other day and needed to pick up a new drivers side window switch for my 1982 300D (window was in the down position and would not come up due to failed switch). I went to my local dealership (Mercedes-Benz of Anaheim aka Caliber Motors) and to my surprise they told me that Mercedes does not make parts for these cars anymore and that no dealer stocks them? I could not believe my ears, as there are a lot of these cars around. I usually get my parts from this site but I always counted on the safety net of getting parts same day from my dealer, if I was in a pinch. This dealer is supposed to be one of the largest wholesale parts dealers in the country. I found it humorous that I can get parts for my 55 300SL from the dealer but not my W123? whats next no parts for w124's or w210's? CRAZY!

Did you ask that Dealer if the Mercedes Classic Center in Irvine sells the Parts?

I get my parts from House of Imports in Buena Park. I usually drop him an email of what I need so that way he can look it up on his free time, and he does a VERY good job of it.

The parts guy you spoke too was probably just having a bad day and did not want to help.

I've never had any problems getting parts from my dealer... I just ordered the harmonic balancer bolt and spring washer from Mercedes Benz of El Dorado Hills. they had to order the parts, and Fed Ex still has my bolt even though the dealer said it would be here today.

I'm guessing that your dealer is being lazy. When I told my dealer I had bought a 1960 ponton the dealer told me he could order any parts I needed and told me about the classic center. I already knew about the classic center but I thought it was cool that the parts guy was interested in helping me restore the car.

Omar from the dealer told me that Mercedes does not make these parts anymore and that they could not be procured from any authorized Mercedes Parts Dealer.

You need to report Omar from the dealer to whoever is in charge because he flat out lied to you.

Well, to be fair MB probably doesn't make the parts anymore. BUT, they sure do have a stockpile of good brand new OEM parts. Window switches too. Call back and hopefully talk to a different person (read: someone over 40) If that doesn't fix the problem, call a different dealer, an online parts warehouse, or the classic center directly. There are some w123 parts NLA, but most are still available.

I find my local dealer to be very very good with parts and prices for w123's. I wish I could say the same for their service department...

On the other side of the world here, the dealers cant compete with a few indies for genuine parts. There is a number bring in genuine w123 (and others) parts from Lebanon. Genuine MB with Arabic writing on the box. A fraction of the price of the dealers. I wonder if Phil has a Lebanese relo that can send him stuff !!

I would call another dealer with the VIN of the car.
I am sure you can get parts for the W123. I just got some parts (including a window switch) for my W126 from a dealer in Poughkeepsie, NY and I bet the parts are the same

Omar just did not want to help you, I get parts fairly often from my dealer with 0 issues. They can get practically anything. Also, many parts from all MB's interchange with other models, so they really need to keep them available.

I've never relied on parts people to help me in any way. Just sign up for the online EPC and get the part numbers yourself and order them by number. I can't believe what he's telling you is true, it has to be wrong.

The one thing M-B always believed in was supplying parts for just about every car they made - at least the important ones. I know some parts (interior trim, for example) are NLA but anything critical to keeping the cars on the road is typically available - you may not like the price but it can be had...maybe your dealer just doesn't want to be bothered any more.

Yeah, I got a front right fender from the dealer, and body parts would be the first to go, I would think. I think they still do make them, by the way.

When I went to the dealer for a radiator cap for the 240D he said it was 2 weeks out. He then checked some other resources and found it to be superceeded by a new PN. Turns out he had several in stock. All the while I was catered to with coffee and conversation. ( MB of Boerne )

Maybe the switchs were updated ??

I also think the give a S* *t factor played a big role in your experience , unless of course you've dealt with Omar before and on this one he was unaware. It happens.

Recently got a hood-star, master-key, flex-joint, and some other small bits from the local dealer for my '82 240D without problems. I've heard that some 123 parts are getting much harder to get and prices are skyrocketting.

As for the power-window, on these it's possible to pop the button out of the offending switch to clean the contacts and restore operation.

Happy Motoring, Mark
