97 e300d door handle removal

I am trying to find out how to remove the door handle on my 97 E300d. The infrared door lock is giving me problems.
I have unscrewd the setscrew in the door jamb, but handle will not move. Is there more than one screw to loosen?
I have searched all the threads, but cannot find anything.
All help is greatly appreciated.

Cant help with the handle, but, have you tried a new key fob battery? Its only function is to provide power for the IR transmitter in the key.

Have not tried a new battery yet. The frosted glass on the door lock is cracked. The trunk and review mirror still work fine.
Since yesterday, I was ableto remove the sensor.
Looks like this part costs around $600. I am going to try other fixes first.

The drivers side door handle sensor has been broken for years on my '97 E 300 D. I just aim the key at the inside mirror instead of the door handle. What I would like in that drivers side door handle, is a key hole. Later models have both a key hole and a sensor. I have asked to have a later model door handle installed and the indi said it is not possible to use my '97 key in a '99 door handle. Something about Mercedes not allowing the '99 handle to be rekeyed to a '97 key. I probably couldn't afford it anyway. Sour grapes.
