yes, i have a banjo bolt that i can rig up to do the modulator adjustment if needed. i will confirm all 6 digits in my trans first before doing anything there. and, it is a 288,000 mile original trans, so the spec pressure may not work. i will try the IP pressure adjustment tonight.

Next time I call for a used part I'll have to remember to call it an 'experienced' part.

Were talking 75 to 90 psi and up pressures here...not manometer ambient pressure.
Your still gonna need a pressure gauge.

In order for the 'open ended tube' to work you'll need 300 feet of tube straight up !

FYI.

Type the following into the Google Search engine.....722.4 transmission line pressure

The top result should be a PDF of the Mercedes transmission.

BTW...Anyone know how to link a PDF without the long link string ?

dkveuro and everyone else...problem solved! ok, so under the domed white cap on the side of the fuel injection, there is an 8mm adjustment screw which regulates the vac to the line which the sole transmission vac line is connected to. as i mentioned in my previous post, it was showing 15" of vac. only under the heaviest acceleration could i get the vacuum to go to 0" to trigger a shift, so i knew the vac was too high going to the transmission. under "normal" 2100 rpm acceleration, the lowest the vac would go was 5", which resulted in the flares on 2-3 and 3-4. so, by what i have read elsewhere, 9" to 11" is recommended to get smooth shifts under normal acceleration. i dialed the vac down to 11" and now the car shifts beautifully...i mean, REALLY nice and smooth shifts...as in not detectable!!! i'm sure putting new K1 and K2 accumulator springs in also helped, but perhaps that work was unnecessary. thank you so much to everyone who chimed in on this thread. out of curiousity, i also checked the vac on my '82 which shifts great and, wouldn't you know it, it also was also at 11". for anyone who has a 722.3 trans which flares on the 2-3 & 3-4 shifts, read the article referenced above/below. it could save you $2000+ by avoid replacing the transmission. or here (if allowed): http://www.continentalimports.com/ser_ic20242.html. i did the adjustment on Figure 2.
