slave cylinder plumbing

Okay, here comes a stupid question. I removed my slave cylinder a while back because I was doing new clutch job and a variety of other things. Anyway, much time elapses before I get things back together and now I have everything back in place but need to reconnect the slave. How is the plumbing routed here? The line goes up over the bellhousing, right? Or am I missing something. I am assuming it goes over, but couldn't seem to make it want to line up straight. Anyway, i have to run to the store to grab some brake fluid and was hoping someone might point me in the right direction so I can hook it back up when I get back. Thanks guys!

A pipe attaches to the cylinder, goes over the trans. and attaches to a short hose that attaches to a nipple bit that comes out of the body.

on the w201, it goes over the tranny and into a hole on the driver's side (assuming LHD in columbia, MO). then it turns into a soft line, and connects to another segment of piping which starts as a soft line, then turns hard. once it turns hard, it is bracketed to the foot well to the left and above the gas pedal, then goes up to the other cylinder on the pedal cluster. if you bought a new tube kit from mb, you know they come as a straight line with soft ends, and if you don't have a pipe bender, you can get one on the cheap from harbor freight to do the job

Okay, that's what I was thinking. Thanks guys. Since I didn't route it over before reinstalling the tranny, I may have to disconnect a bit to get it there. Oh well. Thanks.

What you can do next time is unbolt the slave, (leaving the hard line attached) wire it up out of the way, pull the tranny and when you put the tranny back just bolt the slave back on and no bleeding needed.

Thanks Stevo. Actually, that is what I had done - not planning on having to replace the slave. However, I eventually noticed that it was leaking brake fluid and upon investiation found the diaphram to be bad. So, I had to replace the slave and tomorrow I will have fun trying to bleed it - I think I will start with the connecting line to the RF brake caliper and have my wife assist with the pedal pushing - she'll love it.

Anyway, what I did wrong was hanging the slave up out of the way on the driver side. Then, once I had the tranny bolted back up in, I couldn't get the slave and the plubing twisted around to route it back up over the bellhousing. I ended up removing the slave then undoing the metal line where it bolts together. With the pieces seprated I placed them in their approximate location and bolted it all back together. It wasn't all that bad once I figured out how it was supposed to go. That's what you get for tearing it all aprat and then not putting it back together until several months later. Oh well.

Yah, thats tough too come back and try and reassemble something "later" a part or two always seems to have 'walked away"

I replaced my master and slave last week and had to use Teflon tape on the slave and caliper nipple threads to keep them from leaking while I pumped. I just connect them with the hose (clamped at both ends) and pump like crazy with my right hand from out side the car, go under, close the nipples, if I dont have clutch, do it again. That was the first time I needed the Teflon tape though. I think the secret is a SECURE, non leaky connection between slaves and pump like theres no tomorrow

Instead of using a pipe bender on the tubing, it can be bent and formed by just using your thumbs. gently form it a little at a time. I used the old tubing as a guide. It also helps if the tube is warm.

I tried using a tubing bender, and it wanted to kink it. might have been the wrong type of bender.. thumbs worked just fine.
