One final suggestion
As you re-assemble don't forget the ANTI-SEIZE. You can tell everywhere I have worked on a car by the "silver trail" I leave behind...because I KNOW who will be the next person who has to remove those same bolts! Actually most of the time I run the proper dye down the bolts and a tap through the nuts ( if I don't replace them.)...

Yep that too! sorry about the sp. BUT don't forget the anti-seize, around here we have a rule. If you foget the anti-seize not only must you do it over , you get one good whack with a dead-blow hammer

ATLD, The lower ball joints on my 123 were knocked out with a hammer. However a machine press with a special tool was required to get the new ones in. I was able to get my local independent Mercedes shop to do it for $30 for both. I had to drop the knuckles off with him along with the new bearings. The uppers were much easier.

Jaclson,
Please explain why you could not tighten the nut on the ball joint threaded shaft to pull the tapered ball joint shaft into the tapered hole. That is the way I always do it. What did you mean by the "new bearings"? P E H |
