the new to me 5 spd TD

Heres what I've done so far plus all the usual maintenance items, filters, fluids..etc

SLS pods
idle arm bushings
shift bushing
clutch master and slave... The slave on the 617 was a total bugger compared to the 616
fix locking system..2 door pods and a driver door shuttle valve
flush cooling system...use MB coolant
GPs
swap in uncracked dash
adjust valves, 4* chain stretch
swap in good seats with no broken springs
new D/S seat back
D/S ctr support
swap on aluminum rims and paint wheel covers to match (almost)
hood pad
fix rear window squatters & replace wiper blade
swap in round euro headlights

The lower ball joint boots are bad so they must be done at some point
The only rust that I could find is a little surface rust under the battery tray and the tray itself has a small hole rusted through. The wiendshield is being replaced next week. The MB Tex and window tint came with the car according to the Russian site.

It just popped up on Craig's list and I called the guy right away. Then drove the 75 miles to Tacoma but just about kept driving when I saw it in front of his house. A "repaint" a bad one at that so naturally I figure its rusty and he wants $3350. Without looking under the battery or taking the door panels off I dont find any rust and after a test drive he accepts my 3K offer. Turned out to be a good car but had I not had a collection of parts cars it would have been a hassle, needed a few trim strips, hood star and lots of little cosmetic things. She had been well taken care of by the original owner, a doctor from BC but the next guy, not so much fortunately he didn't have it long and at least he didn't make a greaser out of it

Looks nice Stevo, bring it to the GTG in July so we can get a good look at it.

I just picked up a set of Aluminium wheels today from PNP. $5 ea. Is that a roll of weed eater line on the seat? Looks like the roll I found on my way to PNP laying on the shoulder of the Freeway.

LOL, as in "before and after" pics? Heck, everyones seen what a car looks like with missing trim and a seat with a broken spring doesn't look much different. I was actually expecting to run into an ugly surprise somewhere but all the things that didn't work were an easy fix. Oh, except that clutch slave, not so easy on a 617 The master was "weeping" down the hard line so I figured I'd change out the slave.

At least one person was there before me as the owner mentioned "the first guy that came to look at the car checked for blow by (nearly none) but passed it up.

I'm hopping to make the GTG, Although I've seen St Helens from the air, I've not driven there.

Our family used too rent a cabin along Soquel Creek during the summer when I was a kid in the 50s

Yep, thats weed eater string, I got allot of weeds

The W123 is about an even match to my skill level as a mechanic, not including major suspension work

I pulled out my driver's seat for a nasty surprise too. Of the oxidation kind

Fortunately the POR 15 has cured on the metal... and my hands. I need to fix my mucked up paint job on the side and start reattaching all of the trim stuff.

I should have just gone to Maco and pay the 250$ to repaint the entire demon. Ugh.
