Missing connection atop OM616 injection pump?

Does anyone know what the function of this bicycle-bell-shaped object is on top of the injection pump? It appears that there is a place to connect something like a vacuum hose... should I be worried that there is no connection at present? Look for red arrow in photo below. Thank you for your help!

Wow, a 4-banger pump, how cute!

Anyway, on my 603 that part with arrow pointing to it is the ALDA. If your car is not a turbo that would be for enrichment due to altitude. If your car is a turbo it also handles enrichment for boost pressure.

That's just a vent to atmosphere it should just have a loose piece of vacuum line running under the dash.

^ Kinda, that is normal, just open, no line attached. It's an altitude compensator, you have a non turbo engine, so it simply reads the local atmospheric pressure.
The vent is from the side of the VCV to the cabin.
