Should I be able to do wicked power brake burnies?
Cause I cant. Not that ruining tires is my thing but its just nice to know its there if I want it
I have read stories on here from guys who say there 617's witl roll the tire all day and can spank most other street cars off the line. Think these cars are modded?? I eventually want to turn up the boost and the fuel, but I want to get it running as good as it should in stock form first. The car feels 1000% better in both acceleration and shifting compared to how it drove when I first bought it. I have fixed a bunch of trans problems (still not perfect though) and also removed a WVO system and rebuilt all the injectors, among a few other things as well. One of the injectors was gummed up so bad from the WVO I broke the stem off the needle trying to remove it! All in all I'm happy with the performance. Im just not sure how it should feel when its in tip top shape. Another part of performance that Im not sure about is MPG. What kind should I expect? I average about 22.5 which is 70% freeway driving. That seems low to me. Anyhow, who enjoys some tire smoke once in awhile?? |

The average fuel consumption of your vehicle depends on your driving habits. You make no mentioned of HOW you drive. I found that if I drive impatiently and aggressively, I was able to achieve low twenties. If I was more patient and accept that the W123 that I love is typically SLOW, I now see numbers closer to 30mpg. I have had a full tank average of nearly 32mpg. Typical average is about 27mpg. Extracting additional performance from a 617 will require a Myna (sp?) modded pump and other parts. All the power to you. Until I see a simple plan to boost performance from the 617 with out a gross sacrifice to longevity, I am keeping mods simple.

My 300SD regularly chirps the tires into second gear if I push it, and can let loose in the rain. I wouldn't consider it fast by any means though, just torquey.

Well For the most part I drive like an old lady. CHP's are sneaky bastards on the 101 and I dont like paying for speeding tickets. So 30-65mph depending on traffic.
I'm not disappointed in the performance now, I just like to tinker w/ *****. from what I read in the diesel performance tuning thread, there is a lot more power available just by adjusting the IP and boost (and watching EGT) free power??I'm in. As far as driving fast cars, I build amateur and semi pro race Lotus's for a living, so I get my fill of fast cars most weeks |
