Vacuum not getting to control valve

Hey guys,

I've been having problems with Norm lately in the vacuum and transmission department. Basically I needed a new vacuum control valve, which I obtained. Well after installing it today and not seeing a change I started mityvac-ing everything from the control valve back.

The line that comes off of the vacuum valve on top of the valve cover and leads in to the control valve has no vacuum at all. However the Y-connector that goes from the main vacuum line to the vacuum valve on top of the valve cover has perfect vacuum. I'm guessing that the vacuum valve is shot and in need of replacement. No matter how far the pin goes in it still gives a no pressure rating.

Just wanted to make sure that this is correct thinking before I order this part.

Thanks!

What moron broke that part? He's probably dumb enough to tinker with it in the pitch black too.

Back from vacation already eh??

Also the black line that comes off of the vacuum control valve isn't connected to anything. It runs through the firewall and just hangs loose. Is there something that it connects to?

I can do just about anything mechanically, but vacuum and wiring throws me for a loop.

the thing that goes thru the fire wall is not supposed to hook to anything I think...if I recall correctly the way to read that thing is to hook it up to a mighty vac and you have to test it while you are driving....I think it only bleeds off vacuum.....I think that is what I have read....I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong....I have not tried the test yet...I am still messing with brakes...

Your egr valve may be under the intake manifold, where in the future, the turbo will reside.
The FSM shows two set ups, but it insists you have an egr.
Both of the attachments are headlined 1980.

Just went and looked and I DO NOT have egr at all. There is no valve, and my vacuum system is different from that in the diagram.

There isn't even a place for the egr valve to go!

^Oh trust me I am!

This is what my vacuum system looks like. Although it's just a straight line from the main vacuum line to the vacuum valve.

Also today I bypassed it, and it's too much vacuum. I get super early shifts and it flares a lot. It's better then it was though.

I'm hoping the new vacuum valve fixes it, because mine was definitely leaking. I could hear it, it's from where the pin sticks out.

The Black vac-line from the VCV going into cabin should just hang there...

Its not supposed to be connected to anything....

--Its the source of 'clean air' that VCV bleeds into the vac from the micro-switch on cam-box.....

The VCV has to have a source of clean-air to meter into the vac, quantity depending on accel. position to control the trans...

--There are some pretty small orifices inside the VCV, so air from the engine-bay could contain crud....
