83 300SD I overfilled trannie some; 1/4 inch when hot
I did a little search on this and I've read overfilling is a no-no. Well I had to add some for a few months till I was able to get a Modulator O-ring to keep it from going too low. Now new Oring installed but I put a lil bit too much in it.
When HOT about 1/4 inch above full after idling till hot, not driving to HOT. Not sure if it is worth the trouble subtracting some. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks. If any body needs an Oring let me know I got a few extra. 1-1/16 X 15/16

definitely remove it at your earliest convenience.
you could blow a seal. I have done it on other cars before I understood the risks. I think air also becomes an enemy if its overfilled. The atf will hold it in solution. and... if all you did was warm the engine up by idling, then the atf is not up to operating temp. It needs to be removed, you are way over-filled. |

I have problem reading the tranny level myself accurately most, if not all , the time as you need to read it when the tranny is hot. How can you judge that you are 1/4" too much? It is not like reading oil level where you can leave the engine standing for a long time.

I usually stick it as many times as it takes to get levels the same on three attemps.
I don't have any problems reading the level unless I have just added some. I'll take a half-quart out tomorrow. Thanks.
