Can't find key blanks anywhere for old 408 van
Hi guys, anybody know a good source for key blanks for old Mercs? I can't find a blank to fit the 408 anyplace. It's a gray-market rig, bought in the U.K. and brought to the U.S. on a boat. I'm needing a key for the doors.
Thanks! --Finn |
Have you checked with a dealership? That's the only place i of where you can get mercedes keys made, and you need to take the title with you.

The MB Classic center in Irvine, Ca can take your VIN# and make you a new key. I'm assuming your vin# would in their system...

That's also assuming the locks have never been changed. Does it use the old style single cut key? IIRC, that's basically the same key Peterbilt used for their doors up to at least 2003.

US MB dealers typically don't have van vins in their system. There's a guy in the NW who sells parts for MB vans and unimogs. I can't remember his name but a little searching should pull up his name and company. He would know where to get a blank if he doesn't have one.
NoSpark in this thread seems to indicate he's been in contact with him recently so he should be able to get you his website and phone number. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-used-parts-sale-wanted/246264-309d-engine-parts-source.html?highlight=patrick+export Here he is: http://www.eurotech-services.com/ |
There is a locksmith shop in Detroit called Hugo Solomon.
Those guys seem to be able to come up with blanks for anything. You might have to send them a photocopy of the existing key so they can match it up. |
Cool! My neck of the woods. I'll give 'em a call MOnday. Thanks Kerry!

go straight to the classic center. They can get you the key by the end of the week for under 20$. -CTH
