guidance needed for HVAC gauges/frigi-quiet

I am going to redo my A/C system
I would like some guidance on what manifold gauge set to buy

I don't want to spend more than I have to but want what is good for a diy guy

I am going to put in a new dryer
temp switch
dryer hose
expansion valve
evaporator temp switch (ETR)
pressure switch
heat temp sensor
water temp switch
O-ring kit
am I missing anything (don't want to do compressor if I don't have too or evap. or condenser you know the big money stuff unless really needed so I will do all this stuff first)
maybe a kilma I'll jump 5 to 7 pin

I'm putting freeze 12 in ( how many cans do I need?)
I can only find the BG frigi-quiet II at diesel giant ($42 seems a little high but...)
and nowhere else?

I am going to replace my dash (after A/C stuff) because P.O. dog ate some of it!!
What do I need to do when I am in there ...what are those pods called and how many do I need

or how do you test them?
Any help is good help
any progress is good progress as I always say!

Go to the BG website and contact them. I did that and paid $11 for the Frigiquite oil.

a whole kit with 134a R-12 ect. lines and gauges would be nice
I have 134a can puncture hose and valve thing that is sold everywhere

I am using Freeze 12 as well. I wanted R-12, but the Freeze12 has been working well, and is now on it's 4th summer season.

I replaced the compressor with a new Hancock Industries one. It does have the stepped ports though. I also had the hose under the engine rebuilt, due to a PO splice and rupture, flushed the system w/Methanol, installed a new drier, expansion valve, temp switch for the aux fan, and a new High/Low pressure switch.

I had contacted the BG distributor in my area and they said that the frigiquiet oil also has a dye in it. Is it supposed to come that way??

Ok Larry I'll use R-12 If I can find it legally..

I always want to use the best I can and if R-12 is the best for the system I'll use it

if it gets me colder more reliable temps hell yeah! I'll use it.

I had many other ??'s in the thread about manifold gauges and "anything else I for got"
and none of those were touched on.

And BG oil is dyed a floresent so checking for leaks is detectable under certain light

Ok found some R-12 now I need some gauges (any good brand? )
found some BG frigi quiet so looks like I'm golden there

How many cans of R-12 do I need??

The R-12 systems use a 1/4 inch flare fitting on both the high and low side service ports. Manifold sets (gauges with hoses) are easily available at any refrigeration supply house or online. Buy a basic set. No need to spend a lot of money for occasional use. A wise decision was made with the R-12. I would probably stay with the 500W mineral. Just my opinion. I know that mineral oil flows very good in an R-12 system.

I redid my R12 system last year. I purchased the Frigiquiet oil but did not use it as the only oil. On the bottle it reads that it is not to be used as the only lubricant with R12. I ended up using 6 oz mineral oil and 2 oz Frigiquiet.

My car is a 86 300 SDL (603.961)
so mineral oil instead of frgi-quiet ok

I just want to use the best I can
I am single and have no kids so my car gets all my attention and all the good "gifts"

My compressor works (doesn't blow cold but engauges) only when I

jump 5-7 pin with a wire on the Kilma so I'll order a new one

I have voltage at switches by dryer

center vents blow when 5-7 is jumped (test purposes)

I found three cans of R-12 on craigslist near me for $60 seems like a good score
I will weigh them on my scale before I pay for them though

Seems like I have almost everything lined up but the gauges

should I replace the schrader valve cores for "good measure"

Well that's interesting. I check my left over bottles and they don't say anything like that. I have 100% Frigi-Quiet in my 4 year old system with R12 and a cheap 100 bucks rebuilt compressor.

From the BG website...

http://www.bgprod.com/products/climatecontrol.html
Quote:
BG Universal Frigi-Quiet® is a revolutionary new compressor lubricant that enhances cooling, even under the harshest of conditions. Utilizing unique, ashless anti-wear technology, BG Universal Frigi-Quiet® ensures quieter, cooler compressor operation and will prolong compressor life. It is compatible with all OEM compressor types using R-12, R-22, R-134a and CO2 refrigerant systems. It is 100% compatible with Mineral Oil, PAG and Ester lubricants. Therefore, it will not void OEM compressor warranties! BG Universal Frigi-Quiet® is unyielding when exposed to moisture and oxidation. It offers vast advantages over typical Mineral, PAG and Ester oils and can be safely used in compressors requiring lubricants ranging in viscosity from ISO 46 to ISO 100.

where did you get a compressor for 100 bucks just in case I need one

or was it one of those sweet deals

my compressor only engauges when I jump the 5-7 pin on kilma

So I will order one unless someone can talk me out of it ?

but atleast it engauges
oh and sticker said 2.8lbs. I think

so three cans of R-12 useing a side tap on a warm day should be good

only get the kilma if you have tested it to be bad. BC has the info on that...
you will not get compressor engagement if you don't have proper refrigerant levels.

....
I purchased it 4 years ago from Kragen Autoparts. Now O'Reilly's I guess.

It's a Ready Aire unit and it's been a good compressor so far.
