Axle removal question

I want to remove the rear axles and possibly the driveshaft from my 300D parts car. I'm later going to have the car towed away. I'm under the impression that the driveshaft/rear axles don't provide any needed support for the car to be dragged down the road. Is that true or am i wrong?

So what you are asking is "can I tow my 300d on just the trailing arms and subframe? " I just pulled the entire subframe from my 83sd and I think its possible. I don't believe the half shaft bears any weight.

You are correct.

When I finally stripped down my 240D and had what was left of the body hauled away on a rollback it was missing the following drivetrain items:
engine, 4 spd trans, driveshaft, halfshafts, rear diff, all wheels. I used a floorjack to support the rear half of the car while it was winched on the rollback platform.

I did keep various body parts, you might want to do the same.

Yes true - that would work. But I'd try and save the trailing arms too! (But then you will have a problem towing)

not if you dropped the body down onto a random solid axle rear end with a couple of cinderblocks to space it and chained it all together.

Or even get them to crane the car onto a low loader or lock the front wheels and just tow from the back!
