Looking for valve adjustment wrenches

Hey, guys, I'm finally getting ready to adjust my valves and I want to get a set of Hazet wrenches for the job. I know I could make some, but I'd just as soon get a set of "official" tools for the job, since I'll probably be doing it for the rest of my life. I've checked ebay today, where I can get a 3 wrench set for $99 plus shipping, or a 2 wrench set (bent wrenches only, no retainer wrench) for $69 plus shipping. Anybody know of a better deal, or other places to check? Anybody got an extra set for sale? I'm ready to buy them asap. Thanks. Lee

Nah. Don't be silly. Just propane torch and bend up some cheap Harbor Freight wrenches in a vice. It doesn't take but 5 or 10 minutes.
I grind mine a little bit on the extra surfaces with an angle grinder to make them even easier to use. Also leashing them to something with some spare twine while doing the job will save you a lot of time fishing for them.
If you don't have a vice/ torch/ grinder here is a great excuse to get them. You can more than pay for em with the money you will save over the "official" wrenches.

The real Hazet sets; used come up ounce or twice a month on eBay.
That pretty much the only way to get them for less. However, it took me over 1 year to get them that way after being outbid coutless times.

Maybe one of the Members local to your area could loan you some and you could keep an eye on Ebay.

The other option would be to Remove the Fuel Injection Lines and do the Job with regular Wrenches (you might need to thin one or both) and continue to look for a good deal on eBay or elsewhere.

Methods to get along without the 3rd wrench are in te DIY section. You only need it when one of the adjustment Nuts is a little stuck.
When I did my first Valve Adjustment I had 2 of the lower ones that were stuck. I found the 3rd Wrench worked but was akward to use.

I took very little force to free up the Nuts.
I think just about anything you could find to keep the Upper Spring Retainer from rotating would work.

A wise decision. The Hazet wrenches provide a very precise fit to the valve nuts. Round one of those nuts off with a cheap import wrench and you will regret pinching pennies on tools.

I got mine from the dealer. 2 wrenches for $50. Superb quality. I highly recommend them.

There are a few really nice wrenches for sale fabricated by enthusiasts. Highly recommend that option as well.

If you must have the Hazet pieces, be patient, you will find something on ebay.

My Hazet's came from watching ebay and were far less than the $69 you saw for non Hazet wrenches.

Patience grasshopper... patience

I'm willing to build a set from MAC long wrenches for anybody that wants a 2 wrench set.
mac metric open end wrenches are unsurpassed in fit and quality, and aren't bad priced.
the mac wrenches have a 4 face fit, where most open ends only grab 2 faces.
I'm pretty sure the open ends are about 30.00 each, and I can bend/grind them for about 10.00 and ship them anywhere.
heck, if enough members want a set from me, I bet I can order a bulk pack of wrenches from my mac truck.

What?! When did that happen? I used to buy all snap on, all the time when I worked in a garage, but I haven't tried to use the warranty in a long time. I actually have a couple of broken items that I carry around in the car hoping to run into a snap on truck. That is some sad, sad news....

Tell that to the last person who did a valve adjustment on my car...

^^Exactly right, 14mm is 14mm how can it be that different between brands?

If someone buggered up your car doing work on it then I say you should have done it yourself!

I easily bent 2 wrenches I bought from a pawn shop for $1.00 each. Never had any problem with them.

Before I made my own bent wrenches, I used regular wrenches by taking the injector steel lines off. It's much nicer with the bent wrenches not having to open up the fuel system.

What's the torque spec for the valve nuts?
