79 240D shifts too soon
Hey. I have been driving my new car for a week now and am noticing that it shifts out of third gear into fourth way to fast. Like it doesn't stay in second long enough to get the rpms up and do it any good. If I stay hard on the gas it will shift like what I feel is a good normal place but if I'm just cruising easy it will go right up to third for a second or two and on to the next gear some times it will almost skip it entirely. From what I have read it would se maybe theirs a vacum leak on a transmission hose.
Could I get some help finding the ones which control the shifting? Is it connected to the intake manifold? The car seems to suffer from what I belive you call flaring, it's now extreme at this point but needs to be fixed before something gets burned out. Are both of these issues likely caused by a vacum leak? I'm thinking maybe a old dry rotted hose. I plan on a new transmission filter and flush out soon, I hope this will help too. |

Sounds lkike you have a vacuum leak... here's a link that you might find interesting:
http://dieselgiant.com/mercedesvacuumtroubleshooting.htm http://dieselgiant.com/trannyleverreplace.htm I had the same problem. I changed the little levers in the second link and the tranny shifted better. It's still not perfect, but it was an improvement.
