new to me 240D

After a couple of false starts a few years ago, with some ancient and rusty 190Ds, I finally ended up with a usable diesel Benz after all.

I just took this car on a trade from a friend; I'm going to do $1200 worth of work for him, and for that, I got this 77 240D in exchange.

It runs great, with more power than I was anticipating, and a really smooth 4 speed transmission. Apparently, the engine was rebuilt about 10 years ago. The cam looks clean, not much blowby and starts up easily, at least in this weather.

It has a little rust in the usual places, but not as bad as I've seen. It has a lame Maaco paint job and the left doors are rumpled up somewhat. Front seats are pretty trashed, with pillows necessary to be useful. It has run only on petrol, no WVO experiments or badly done conversions.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with it, but I do need to find some new doors and seats pretty soon, and figure out how to get the fuel gauge and speedo working again.

I have good doors and seats available but shippng would kill you. I am coming out to Montana in a couple of weeks on vacation though and could put it all in the back of my pickup.

I would have to verify my door supply but I am sure about the seats.

hmmm .... I've never been to Montana. When and where in Montana? Tempting, if I can't find anything closer.
