Question New syn Rotella oil

Has anyone used the new 5W-40 Rotella oil yet? I have always used Rotella 15W-40 and been very happy. I was thinking of using the 5W-40 during the winter.

There's another thread going about the new synth Rotella. My main gripe is that none of our local Wal-Marts carry it. I found it at a W-M SuperCenter about a 100 miles away.. long way to go for oil. Wal-Mart also mysteriously stopped stocking the 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1 that were a bargain. Me, I'm going to put another 1200 miles or so on this oil change before I do indeed change it.

Just put it in yesterday. Seems good but I have to wait longer to see if the cold start up feature helps. Thought it was a good choice for a Michigan winter.

My logic in trying the Rotella Syn is simply that Mobil 1 is rated CF, whereas the Rotella gets a CH-4 rating. If the Rotella begins to leak, I will definitely switch to 15W50 Mobil 1.
I like the Chevron Delo 400 better than Rotella myself. I think there's a lot of psychology involved in oil preferences; perhaps I just like the bright blue colored jugs that Chevron uses, and the deep bluish purple of the new Rotella.

The Dino Rotella T has a higher parafin content than the other universal grades such as Delo and Delvac. The synthetic blend should probably solve this, possibly making Rotella the best universal grade with only Mobil Delvac One to vie with for the top spot.

As far as the availability complaint goes, give me a break! It's a new product, it'll take a little while to get it on the shelves everywhere.

Have a great day,

Larry, our local W-M told my wife that they were not going to stock it. I guess they really don't care about our tiny minority of diesel owners. They did have a shelf full of this new Rotella Diesel Fuel Catalyst.

Put it in 2 weeks ago today and 2500 miles no ill effects. Fuel mileage between 32 and 35. Still looks clean on the dipstick

Ricali, I take it that your clean dipstick is on the 300E? I never have clean-looking oil.

yes it's clean oil. I change my oil on how I feel that day or if the weather is nice, I'm home alone bored, no more room store any extra containers and several other reasons. Most of all I like clean oil and a clean car. It's the most relaxing thing I do and it doesn't talk back. I know the grill actually smiles at me when I'm done

I'm 500 miles into the first use of the syn. Rotella 5w40. The level is staying right at the top which is good.
