adjusting window tracks?
yesterday I took apart the messed up driver's door on my new 77 240D to get the window regulator working again. The regulator was in several pieces and was all bent up from someone trying to force the window up after the door was damaged. Windows are manual.
I took it out, got it mostly straightened out again on the anvil in the shop, and then put the little aluminum bits that hold the spring back in and got it all back together. I put it back in the door, and fooled around with it enough that I can now roll the window up all the way, but the last little bit is kind of hard, and makes the door flex (in fact, there is a crack in the door shell right at the regulator where there is a screw missing). If you roll it down too far, it falls out of the rubber tracks and has to be finessed back in. I kept looking for a way to tighten up the tracks, ie move them closer together, so that the window can't get crooked in there, but I can't see any adjustments for the window tracks. Is there any? I don't have a service manual for this car yet. |

Make sure the bottom bolts are bolted in! I don't believe there is any adjustment.

Yeah, all that is good. There seems to be a little bit of adjustment available in the way the window attaches to the regulator, and in where that little "idler" bracket attaches to the door over by the latch, but neither of those are giving me enough adjustment to get the problem all the way solved. I need new doors on the driver's side anyway, but it will probably take me a while to find them, and I'm trying to get this working as well as I can in the meantime.
thanks! |
